Entangled roots, the sunrays bursting through the silhouettes of trees, the exquisite colors and patterns manifested on leaves—that’s what motivates me to create. I take great delight in discovering ways to see the world differently. Most of my paintings are enhanced with vibrant colors, bold lines, and dramatic light sources giving off a graphic and dreamlike appearance.
I take risks and expand on concepts in my work but I always return back to nature. Nature is an escape from my daily reality and a constant avenue for me to find beauty in this world. While most of my work is Plein air paintings of physical locations, I occasionally develop images of places and utopias.
I admire the dancing brushstrokes and pure light that Claude Monet can portray, and the rich colors and boldness in Ernst Ludwig Kirchner’s pieces. As Jackson Pollock once said, “A canvas is an arena in which to act”. Its important to me as an artist to produce art, but also enjoy the process of creating. Free expression, movement, and imagination are always intertwined into my art making process. Instead of controlling every move, I let the brush strokes guide me—making me feel alive.
My faith trickles’ into everything that I do, especially my artwork. Clinging onto God’s grace through it all; my work aims to magnify the same feelings I experience with my faith— freedom, joy, and hope. Just like the many branches that explode off of a tree, I want to continue to grow and use this gift of creativity to reach and encourage others to discover their own artistic path.
